Set of four Illum Vikkelso Danish Plexus easy chairs in mahogany.
The plexus armchair series was designed by Illum Wikkelsø in the 1960s and produced in the 1960 - 1970´s by CFC Silkeborg in Denmark.
The set of armchairs have been checked, repaired and refinished if needed by our cabinetmaker to ensure that they ae in are in good condition and features a frame in Mahogany and fabric upholstery in good vintage condition.
The Plexus series is designed to be easily taken completley apart making it easy to combine eg. two Plexus chairs to make a sofa, to put into storage or to ship.
Like all of our upholstered pieces the armchairs can also be delivered with reupholstered cushions in fabric or leather.
Kristian Illum Wikkelsø was a Danish furniture designer, who belonged to the generation of Danish designers among them Hans j. Wegner, Finn Juhl, Kai Kristiansen and many others that made Danish Design a world brand during the 1950s and 1960s. He was a carpenter apprentice until 1938 and then was admitted at the Art Works School in Copenhagen, from where he graduated 1941. After years as an employee at first Jacob Kjær and then the partners Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard, he established his own business in 1954. Many of his pieces have become classical designer object, among the widest known are his rocking chair and his easy chair model V11.
An important partner was C. F. Christensen, Silkeborg, for whom he designed the PLexus series and other light comfort chairs.
